For the ultimate wedding music experience, make sure you book an experienced live wedding band.

Is it really live?

Live wedding music can vary greatly in standard. Very often a working DJ will add on a saxophone player and what you have is in fact a wedding DJ with a saxophonist – nothing more, nothing less! Yet this is very often listed and advertised as “live wedding music”. Don’t get us wrong, it’s certainly not a bad option, it may really get the dancefloor rolling (as a good wedding DJ should). However it’s not quite the same essence of live music as a band with a drummer and bass player!

A good live wedding band has the constant action of snare, high hat, tom-toms and symbols. The unique synergy that is created with a good bass player and a rocking guitarist is something that cannot be replaced by digital music. Live wedding music is incomparable to pre-recorded tracks. It’s the movement and the kinetic energy from the stage that makes the difference!

It’s all about chemistry

There is such thing as chemistry in Music. You need to look no further than the antics of Mick Jagger with the Rolling Stones, AC/DC, the Beatles, Iggy Pop or any other serious pop/rock band in history. Making music is about much more than the sound through the speakers. It is an energy and artistry that comes off when people join together in a live act. Wedding music is at its best when there are real life, moving artists on stage connecting with the audience. Audience participation and interaction is essential for a good live wedding band. If you intend to book live wedding music, make sure it really is alive!

Having said this, it’s also prudent to remember any good live wedding bands will always supplement the live music sets (usually 45 minutes long) with good solid DJ sets from a basic DJ module attached to the high-quality PA system that comes with any band.

Choices choices

For your live wedding band lineup what are your preferences?

The options are quite simple to start with.

Like many famous trios of the past (the living end to name one) your essentials are really – bass, drums, vocal/guitar

The next things you need to add depending on the style of sound you want are usually as follows:

Keyboards

Saxophone

Trumpet

Female vocals.

You may want to get really exotic and add a percussionist! This can add a Latin/international flavour to the band. Speaking of which if you require an international style of music, be sure to ask the big thanks band what they have on offer. Variety is the spice of life and a good live wedding Music will be respectful of the culture from which you originate.

Hybrid style is often the order of the day. Let’s face it any self-respecting South American family that has moved to Australia does not want to let go of the Latin/Salsa/tango roots. At the same time there will be children in the family of the new generation that I’ve grown up with artists like Bruno Mars, Ed Sheeran and the various rock pop icons that litter our radio stations.

Be imaginative with your requests! You never know what is possible with good live music.

A wedding DJ will get you across the line and give you a good night. A full-fledged live wedding band will make it a night that you can never forget!
